Mumbai: Akshaya Tritiya, falling this year on 30 April, is one of the most sacred dates in the Hindu calendar. Observed annually on the third day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakha, it is considered a highly auspicious occasion for new beginnings, religious rituals, and financial investments. The word “Akshaya” means “never diminishing” in Sanskrit, and it is believed that any good deed or purchase made on this day yields enduring benefits.

While it is widely celebrated with gold and silver purchases, it is equally important to be mindful of certain practices that are traditionally discouraged. Ignoring these may, according to religious beliefs, displease Goddess Lakshmi – the deity of wealth – and bring about financial instability.
