Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre leads India's leap into human spaceflight

New Delhi: India is embarking on a Human Spaceflight programme, to carry humans to Earth orbit and return them safely with an ocean splashdown, using domestic hardware. ISRO is developing a higher-thrust version of its mightiest rocket, rated for carrying humans, and a spaceship, called the Gaganyaan Crew Module. Establishments by the Department of Space across the country, along with academic institutions, research labs and private industries are providing elements of the ambitious Gaganyaan Programme, with the primary architects being the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
