Quantum electronics can surprisingly be powered by Cholesterol
New Delhi: Most of us know cholesterol as the notorious fat-like substance linked to heart disease. This same cholesterol can be employed to power the next-generation of quantum technologies. Researchers from the Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), have developed cholesterol-based nanomaterials that manipulates electron spins, a quantum property with the potential to transform the energy efficiency of electronics. The research was led by Dr Amit Kumar Mondal, with the team developing metal-organic supramolecular materials that exploit the intrinsic chirality and flexibility of cholesterol.
