ISRO carries out vacuum ignition test of indigenous cryogenic rocket engine
New Delhi: ISRO has announced that it has successfully carried out the ignition trial of the CE20 cryogenic engine. The indigenously developed engine powers the upper stage of the Launch Vehicle Mark 3, the mightiest rocket in ISRO’s fleet. A multi-element igniter was used to fire up the engine under vacuum conditions, which simulates the space environment in which the engine is designed to function in. The test was carried out at the High Altitude Test Facility in the ISRO Propulsion Complex at Mahendragiri in Tamil Nadu. The performance of the engine was nominal and within expected parameters.
