IIT Madras successfully boots up ISRO's space-grade Shakti processor
New Delhi: The aerospace-grade, indigenously developed Shakti microprocessor has been booted up for the first time at IIT Madras. The realisation of the chip entirely in India is a demonstration of self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing. The specification for the chip and the funding was provided by the ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU) in Thiruvananthapuram, the Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) tapeout, which is the completed processor layout for the foundry was done by the Semiconductor Laboratory in Chandigarh, which was sent to PCB Power in Gujarat for fabrication.
