Coronal hole to cause geomagnetic storm on 10 Feb
New Delhi: The Space Weather Prediction Centre (SWPC) operated by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has issued an alert for a minor geomagnetic storm because of a high speed stream (HSS) from a coronal hole (CH) aimed straight at the Earth, “Unsettled to active levels are expected on 09 Feb due to negative polarity CH HSS effects. G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storming is likely on 10 Feb as high speed stream effects continue.” The alert is for the lowest level of geomagnetic storm, just above the threshold of geomagnetic disturbances.
