Straight Talk | In Trump, India Finds A Powerful Ally Against Khalistanis
Threatening India, desecrating the Indian flag, attacking Indian diplomatic missions, and creating a rift between Hindus and Sikhs—Khalistanis abroad have done it all over the past few years. The most notorious element of this farcical movement—Gurpatwant Pannun—has even organised so-called “Khalistan referendums" in several “Western" nations. All of that may soon be coming to an end, as India and the United States join hands to take on anti-social, and more importantly, anti-national elements that openly threaten India’s territorial integrity.
Diplomatically, the past few months have been extremely taxing for India. New Delhi has had to fend off unsubstantiated allegations of orchestrating extrajudicial killings in Canada and the United States, apart from running a broader international campaign to target Khalistanis. The Joe Biden administration not only complicated India’s fight against terror and separatism but also joined hands with Canada’s Justin Trudeau to malign New Delhi globally.
However, the world has been a very different place since Donald Trump took over as the USA’s 47th president a month ago.
