Pakistan’s economic freefall has entered a dangerous new phase. Yamaha Motor Pakistan’s announcement to halt motorcycle manufacturing marks yet another multinational giant pulling out of the country. Far from being an isolated event, this is part of a long exodus of global companies—Microsoft, Shell, Pfizer, Sanofi, Uber, and others—who have found Pakistan increasingly unsustainable for business.

Yamaha Joins the Exit Parade

On September 9, 2025, Yamaha Motor Pakistan (YMPK) officially ceased local motorcycle production. The company cited a “change in business strategy", but the underlying reasons are no secret—rising political instability, policy inconsistency, and an unworkable business environment. Yamaha’s exit comes just weeks after Microsoft shut down all operations in Pakistan after 25 years, citing “political chaos and regulatory risks".
