Opinion | Army and Assam Rifles Schools' Stellar Role In Providing Quality Education In Remote Areas

With over 100 million enrolled students in schools and colleges, India’s school education system is ranked globally as the eleventh largest. Being a state subject under the Indian Constitution, each of India’s 28 states has their own state education board and/or university governing body, along with local authorities appointed to regulate education at various levels.

There’s a constant endeavour to improve literacy rates, particularly at the primary and secondary education level across the country. It’s in this nurturing environment that we see the Army Goodwill Public Schools (AGPS) and the Assam Rifles Public Schools (ARPS) playing important roles in facilitating the uplifting of society by delivering basic quality education to children in Jammu and Kashmir and in the North East India respectively.

The education system in India has evolved over the past few decades, moving away from a rote-based learning system to a more modern, smart and innovative one. Divided into five categories – preschool, primary, secondary, senior secondary, graduation and above levels, education in India has several good features and benefits, such as every child has to compulsorily pass the 10th standard to be eligible for higher studies, or to get a job; affordable fee structure, accessibility to information-based technology, adoption of a holistic approach, etc.

The Army Goodwill Public Schools (AGPS) are schools established by the Indian Army in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. It maintains and runs these schools as part of a goodwill initiative to provide education to children coming........
