The United Kingdom is in the midst of a major scandal around grooming gangs mainly involving Pakistani men. The charge is that groups of men, mostly hailing from Pakistan, have been targeting vulnerable British girls between the ages of 10-18. They do so by luring them into a circle of acquaintances with gifts and attention, which ultimately ends in their sexual exploitation. The scandal apparently broke after Elon Musk highlighted it on Twitter (X).

This led to demands for a public inquiry into the matter but the resolution demanding such an inquiry was defeated in parliament, when the government decided to vote against it.

Why would a government not support a move to conduct an inquiry into such a serious matter which has clearly gained much popular media attention, and which obviously concerns the wellbeing of Britishers. The government claims to have voted against the resolution because it considered it........
