Right Word | RSS@100: A Call For Replicating The Successful ‘RSS Model’ In Other Countries

The Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Mohan Bhagwat, recently spoke at a three-day lecture series at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. A similar event was held in 2018 at the same venue, but this time it carries greater significance as it came close on the heels of the RSS completing 100 years on October 2.

The RSS was set up on Vijaydashami in 1925. There are several interesting key takeaways from this lecture series.

First, around 1,200 guests attended the lecture series each day. The attendees included prominent figures from various fields, including scientists, sportspersons, retired military personnel, artists, educationists, and social workers. Most of them had no prior association with the Sangh. This was part of the RSS’s broader ‘outreach’ programme, which is set to gain further momentum during its centenary year.

Second, for the first time, an RSS event was attended by diplomats from more than 40 countries, indicating the organisation’s growing global outreach. Those present included ambassadors and senior diplomats, who also participated in a special high-tea session with Bhagwat.
