Global Watch | How Yunus Regime Is Pushing Bangladesh On The Road To Perdition

Keeping up with Bangladesh, one can with certainty describe the ongoing crisis in one word—chaos. The lack of clarity over the country’s national elections has resulted in a period of unprecedented chaos, as political parties and leaders clash over how the future should unfold. With the government caught between warring factions, it has sought to placate its critics by creating 11 reform commissions, though no tangible progress has been made in areas such as law and order or the economy. The Muhammad Yunus government, embroiled in a web of contradictions and violence, appears increasingly incapable of managing the nation’s challenges.

The most consistent feature of post-Sheikh Hasina Bangladesh has been the rise of mob violence, systemic attacks on minorities, and the crackdown on dissenters. The government’s response has often been to label these incidents as political acts or as revenge against so-called “fascist forces", effectively deflecting any meaningful examination of the underlying communal and ethnic tensions. The escalation of violence against opposition parties and religious minorities continues unabated, with no significant intervention from the authorities. In fact, the interim government has largely turned a blind eye, providing free rein to those responsible for these violent acts. The destruction of historic properties, Hindu temples, and Awami League offices has been dismissed as political retribution, with no serious repercussions for the perpetrators.

Perhaps most shocking is the case of 32 Dhanmondi, which was completely razed to the ground in a recent incident of vandalism. Rather than condemning the violence, the government justified the attack as an act of “provocation" rather than mob violence.
