Team USA’s historic hockey wins: Letters to the Editor — Feb. 24, 2026

The Issue: USA men’s hockey winning gold for the first time since 1980 following the women’s recent win.

From north of the 49th, I want to say congratulations to Team USA hockey players (“Believe It!” Feb. 23).

Your women played with the relentless structure and poise that defines champions and your men answered every push with another gear. But what struck me most was the moment after the men’s game, when players passed the late Johnny Gaudreau’s jersey around.

In a sport built on speed, these men slowed down to remember what matters.

We Canadians take pride in calling this our game. The truth is that hockey belongs to anyone who plays it with heart. This time, that was you.

Jack Hughes cements his place as an Olympic — and American — hero

I think it would be wonderful if, when America’s winning hockey team visits the White House, President Trump appoints goalie Connor Hellebuyck honorary Secretary of Defense.

To all the USA Olympians, I say, well done.

I wonder if the troglodytes in NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman’s office watched the USA men’s and women’s games in the Olympics.

Bettman and others tell us fighting and players who only beat others up are endemic to the sport. But — while Olympic hockey has the occasional boarding, high elbows and, as hero Jack Hughes can attest to, teeth knocked out — gloves are not dropped and fighting is strictly prohibited.

Congratulations to both USA hockey teams on winning gold.

Now that the United States has clearly surpassed Canada in hockey dominance, every Canadian should thank God for maple syrup, Ryan Reynolds and Rick Moranis, for without them, their country would be completely useless.

How great is it that the Team USA men’s hockey team is actually proud to be American?

The way they honored Gaudreau and his children was heartfelt. They made America proud.

Now that America has defeated Canada in Olympic ice hockey and won the gold medal, it’s fair to say Canada will soon become the 51st state.

It’s uplifting to see how patriotic the Team USA Olympic men’s and women’s hockey teams are. Unfortunately, a few athletes like Hunter Hess still get airtime.

Let the unpatriotic athletes represent some other country.

The Issue: President Trump ordering the Pentagon to release files related to UFOs and aliens.

According to the White House, we’re about to receive a trove of files related to extraterrestrials and unidentified flying objects (“Trump ‘Alien’ Act,” Feb. 20).

For this document dump to be done to my satisfaction, I need walking, talking aliens. Bipedal, diminutive green men. I don’t care about evidence of alien life; I want to see actual alien life.

What I won’t accept is weird schmutz on a petri dish masquerading as some kind of intergalactic microorganism.

The Post has reported that President Trump has ordered government officials to release confidential files about UFOs and aliens to the public.

With outer-space visitors like Kamala Harris, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Gov. Gavin Newsom and most of the Democrats, I don’t see why this should be necessary. These politicians are living proof that aliens are walking among us.
