Noem’s exit from the DHS: Letters to the Editor — March 7, 2026

The Issue: President Trump firing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem following recent House hearings.

Kristi Noem’s firing is well deserved (“Noem is fired and iced!” March 6).

Her brief tenure as Homeland Security secretary was marked by gross incompetence, constant mendacity, political tone deafness and, frankly, a disturbing narcissism.

It says something that, while serving in a Cabinet of similarly unqualified colleagues, Noem’s shortcomings stood out.

Shame on President Trump for nominating her, and shame on all the senators, especially the seven Democrats, who voted to confirm her, knowing she was not up to the job.

Unlike past presidents, Trump delivered on his promise to eliminate our enemies

Here’s the difference between Trump and the Democrats: The president finally realized Noem was an imbecile and showed her the door.

Joe Biden supported Alejandro Mayorkas while he was allowing millions of illegal aliens to stroll across the border.

In the business world, when you are fired, you are no longer employed by that company.

However, in Trump’s kingdom, getting fired just means migrating to a newly created position.

Sounds more than a bit fishy.

Perhaps there was truth in what Noem said about Trump in her hearings, and now he wants her out of the spotlight.

As he so often does, he’ll pay her off to be quiet.

Millions of dogs and I are thrilled that Trump finally fired Kristi Noem.

But, even though her replacement, Sen. Markwayne Mullin, never shot his own dog to death, he’s still an ignoramus who publicly struggled to understand the difference between Iran and Iraq.

I bet Noem’s favorite song is “Stand by Your Man.”

Love her or hate her, she would have taken a bullet for Trump.

Noem is best known for murdering a dog that disappointed her.

She spat on the graves of those whom ICE officers killed, accusing them of being “domestic terrorists.”

She went to prisons where immigrants targeted for deportation were incarcerated, showing off and delighting in their misery.

However, her replacement, Trump sycophant Markwayne Mullin, may represent jumping from one frying pan into another.

Noem was fired from her DHS position.

As they say in Texas, she’s all hat, no cattle.

The Issue: California Gov. Gavin Newsom calling Israel “an apartheid state” at a book-promotion event.

Israel, within its pre-1967 boundaries, is not an apartheid state (“Gav rips Israeli society,” March 5).

However, Israel is an apartheid state within the West Bank, as Palestinians there do not enjoy equal rights with Jewish settlers.

But there are many countries in the world that give preference to a particular group, and we rarely refer to them as apartheid states.

China in Tibet is a good example.

If Newsom believes Israel, at its core, is an apartheid state, he should also name other countries which clearly fit that label.

In 2021, former Israeli ambassadors to South Africa Ilan Baruch and Alon Liel co-authored an essay arguing Israel has instituted an apartheid regime in the West Bank, with a two-tiered legal system and Palestinians forced to live on ever-smaller tracts of land, among other things.

When former Israeli diplomats acknowledge apartheid, it shouldn’t be seen as extreme for an American governor to say so too.
