Disloyal athletes and more: Letters to the Editor — Mar. 1, 2026

Kudos to Rich Lowry for his column on the Winter Olympic athletes (“The Bonds That Bind,” PostOpinion, Feb. 25).

I was disappointed to observe American “athlebrities” speak out so prominently in critiquing the United States from their temporary perches overseas.

For instance, Hunter Hess was one of the more recent in a long line of previously privileged citizens to bad mouth his homeland on the world stage. I was astounded that, given the reliance of the Olympic Games on properly functioning immigration systems of all participating nations, so many missed this glaring incongruity.

For Americans, joining the Olympic team is a privilege, not a right, as is US citizenship.

I have been a fan of Stephen King for over 50 years — however, his Trump Derangement Syndrome has started to ruin his latest stuff as he insists on making a cheap and simplistic political point over writing a solid story (“A Stephen King horror,” Feb. 25)

His latest post about President Trump was especially sad. Saying Trump has never had a child was odd enough, but the part about him not having done any “sweat labor” was especially hypocritical. I could be wrong here, but I don’t remember anything about King ever working as a stevedore.

It’s very sad to see a hero disintegrate like this.

Hunter College Professor Allyson Friedman’s racist remarks are inexcusable and should be condemned (“Hunter prof benched,”  Feb. 27).

However, where’s the outrage for the far worse hate speech against Israel and Jewish people that’s become mainstream in the New York City school system, colleges and universities? Such speech has led to far worse outcomes than what was said by Prof. Friedman.

We are witnessing President Trump repairing the world, one country at a time. The news that Mexico has finally taken on one of its cartels is something so many US administrations have tried, but failed to get done (“Killing Cartels,” Elaine Dezenski & Jonathan Earles, PostOpinion, Feb. 24).

Trump has been doing extraordinary things across the globe. Throw a dart and chances are you’ll hit a deal already done, or in the making, that will regionally advance peace.

After his term ends, we need Trump to take over the MTA — if he can tackle Mexican cartels, he might have a chance in straightening out the MTA.

I am still laughing at FBI Director Kash Patel enjoying the gold medal win with all the athletes (“Trocheck: Backlash over D.C. visit is ‘sad,’ ” Feb. 26)

He had a blast and a beer with the guys. A die-hard hockey fan and player himself, Patel looked like one of the guys. And here I thought all politicians were boring!

So, for the second year in a row, Rep. Al Green was ejected from the House during President Trump’s State of the Union address, this time for holding up a sign that said “Black people aren’t apes” (“A night full of cheers & jeers,” Feb. 25).

Maybe he should send that message to Gov. Hochul and Gov. Gavin Newsom.
