Jamie Allan. His magic show “Amaze” at the New World Stages is the hottest to come through since that guy who took me when I was in high school. Allan’s broken all the records in Chicago and Britain.

Jamie tells me: “I was 5 when I got my magic kit and 7 when I did my first show. I borrowed a 5 pound note from the audience, pretended to burn it then bring it back, but I actually did burn it. I was 5 pounds down — that was less than my earnings. That was big money for me. I was terrified.

“Age 5, my dad made the tricks for me. Scared, I grew up where we didn’t have games. Nothing to distract me. I first did a trick with making billiard balls disappear then I ended up newly producing the four at my fingertips. Now everything costs a lot more.

“Other magicians would gift me things and I’d save my pocket money to buy them. An old........
