Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission to Haiti is failing as planned

MSS appears to have been designed to fail, for reasons best known to proponents, that only lured Kenya to join but withheld their pledges.

Big, Hollow Promises and Their Results

A press statement by the US ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield from June 25th, 2024 read that her country had already committed $360 million for MSS. However, Reuters had reported in Late April 2024 that the UN had only received $18 million including $8.7 million from Canada, and $6 million from the US. Washington appeared interested in hoodwinking others to direct resources to Haiti, while it stood aside, despite originating and voting for the UN Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2699, which underpins (MSS), on October 3rd 2023. On September, 7th 2024, Reuters reported that countries had only given $68 million despite pledging hundreds of millions, and added that the US and Ecuador were already drafting a resolution to transition the MSS, to a UN peacekeeping mission to reportedly “sustain the (nonexistent) gains achieved by MSS”. US-Ecuador draft resolution shows that MSS was only a stepping stone designed to fail, while distracting others including Kenya from development.
