Balochistan Attack: The New Front in Global Power Struggles
The recent terrorist attack on a Pakistani train in Balochistan is not just an isolated incident, but part of a larger geopolitical struggle involving global powers vying for influence in the region.
For more than two decades, Pakistan has been suffering from the menace of terrorism. The country has lost more than 80000 lives in its fight against terrorist organizations, including ISKP, TTP, and BLA, mainly operating from Afghanistan. Since the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul, terrorist activities in Pakistan have surged to an unprecedented level.
On Tuesday, March 11, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist terrorist organization operating in the Balochistan province of Pakistan, hijacked a train, traveling from the provincial capital, Quetta, to Peshawar. The organization was designated as a terrorist group by the United Nations and the US in 2009. The group carried out 504 terrorist attacks, killing more than 385 people, in 2024.
The train was carrying more than 440 passengers, including military officials and civilians. The BLA blew up the railway track while the train was passing through the area of Bolan. The driver of the train was killed by the BLA militants. Most of the passengers were taken hostage by the BLA terrorists, while some succeeded in escaping soon after the attack.
