Re: Justin Trudeau attends King Charles’ throne speech wearing colourful shoes — Stewart Lewis, May 27

In wearing green and orange sneakers with a navy suit to the throne speech, the arrogance of Justin Trudeau continues. The former prime minister may as well have given the middle finger to both Prime Minister Mark Carney (who is known to insist on a strict dress code) and King Charles, whose position alone deserves better.

People want to know. Were Justin Trudeau’s fancy Adidas Gazelle sneakers, which he wore to the throne speech, more expensive than the Zegna high-top sneakers (worth more than $2,000) that Mark Carney was thought to be sporting during the election campaign?

Perhaps former prime minister Stephen Harper, seen chatting with Trudeau at the throne speech, was able to pry it out of him and will tell us on X.

Of course we know why Trudeau wore the coloured runners. It was his last chance to give fellow Canadians and the House his total disdain. I’m not sure he even combed his hair.

Trudeau senior pirouetted behind Princess Margaret’s back (and in the presence of Queen Elizabeth) at Buckingham Palace. Trudeau junior partied late into the night on the eve of that same Queen’s funeral. That same Trudeau wore flashy sneakers at a rare, formal, ceremonial and highly important event featuring the new King of England.

One would hope that the British Royalty would now take a page from the baseball rulebook — three strikes and you’re out — and rid itself forever of the Trudeau impertinency.

Re: NP View: When progressives become indistinguishable from Islamists — Editorial, May 24

My Jewish neighbours are leaving. I feel crushed by the weight of that statement. They were hoping for change. They wanted to stay. This was their home. This was their country. But things have changed.

Proudly worn Star of David necklaces are now hidden. The mezuzah on the door is the only symbol left. Maybe that, too, will be taken down.

No one has acted on the words, “we stand with you,” since that shocking day on October 7. Shocking in the atrocities committed. Shocking in the response they elicited. People celebrated in the streets of Canada. People justified a massacre. People decided there was a moral equivalence to murder. But there was no moral equivalence. There can never be a justification for what was done.

What has happened to our world? The world that used to care about innocent people being kidnapped. What has happened to Canada? What has happened to Canadians?

And what about the silence. The silence has been deafening. Silence is complicity.

The universities have not been silent.........
