The United States must launch targeted strikes on Iran’s Islamic regime immediately and stop the slaughter of the country’s pro-democracy activists. While this would be an extraordinary measure, failure to intervene would constitute a historical injustice and a missed opportunity for the peaceful transformation of the Middle East.

Since late December, millions of Iranians have taken to the streets to demand an end to the theocratic autocracy that has asphyxiated their country for 46 years. While similar protests have occurred in the past — most notably in 2010, 2019 and 2022 — the scale and breadth of this civil unrest has been unprecedented, as has been the regime’s cruel retaliation.
