When Ottawa won't talk climate, we dig deeper
Prime Minister Mark Carney has ushered in a new era of federal climate politics where ministers are reluctant to talk about Canada’s greenhouse gas emission targets in concrete terms. Under Carney, cornerstone climate policies like the consumer carbon price have been eliminated, the electric vehicle sales mandate has been placed in limbo and the long-promised oil and gas emissions cap is at risk of being axed. Our new national “climate competitiveness strategy” spans only 10 pages of a 400-page plus budget document.
