Mark Carney’s climate rollbacks are an attack on parents and children

As parents, we have a huge responsibility to our children to provide them with everything they need for a healthy and livable future. Regrettably, our ability to do so is being severely eroded by the recent decisions of the federal government.

Prime Minister Carney’s pipeline announcements and other rollbacks on climate and environmental protections are a direct attack on our ability as parents to protect our kids and future generations.

In early July, as parents and children sheltered indoors from multiple heatwaves and wildfire smoke, thousands experienced massive flooding, multiple Indigenous communities across the country were evacuated due to wildfires and, as we tried to keep our children safe from an environment rapidly growing more volatile, the federal government announced a deal with Alberta to push forward on a new West Coast pipeline. Touted by Carney as a project of national interest that will ensure “prosperity for generations to come”, the project will pump out one million barrels of climate-wrecking fossil fuels per day and line the pockets of fossil fuel executives.
