Dynamic Duos: ‘He’s not just a business partner, he’s a trusted confidante’

In Dynamic Duos, Mumbrella each week asks two colleagues with a professional and personal affiliation to share with readers the importance of workplace relationships in an increasingly hybridised world of work.

Meredith Cranmer:

We were introduced by a headhunter, Jo Gobbo, as part of a retained search to find a business partner and person to help me grow Because. I had come straight from being onsite at a really big event and was a chaotic ball of energy. From the first moment I met Gareth (G) I was at ease. He asked me really great questions and when I asked him what he was looking for in his next role he answered, fun! It’s been 10 years of working together, and most recently he took an even bigger stake in the business. This investment is testament to the strength of our relationship, and the deep level of trust and belief we have in each other. We have similar ambition and drive, yet are very different in how we work and think. I have so much respect for G’s craft skills and ability to get the best from himself, teams and clients. He commands high standards of himself and others which is essential if you want to be the best.

I appreciate G’s gentle directness with feedback. There have been numerous times when G has given me feedback that hasn’t always been great (like when I am overwhelming the team with way too many ideas, that whilst good, don’t read the room when it comes to workloads and prioritisation), but necessary – and always delivered with kindness, for the better of me and the business.

G and I place great importance on relationships and service. I respect how many clients of his have become friends and how he fosters trust from those around him.

Most of all, I value G’s friendship. We are not just business partners. He is a trusted confidante, shoulder to cry on, tells the best stories and is always ready to say cheers – whatever the circumstances.

Gareth Brock:

Meeting Jo Gobbo, the dedicated recruiter, marked a significant turning point in my professional journey. After taking a hiatus........
