Hanes: Clinic that cares for Montreal's most vulnerable 'won't make it'

The five doctors who own and operate Clinique l’Agora on Berri St. fear the new provincial law changing the way doctors are paid will leave them without enough funds to pay their staff, cover the rent and buy medical supplies.

Since taking part in webinars explaining the new compensation system, which comes into effect Jan. 1, and sitting down with the clinic’s accountants to look at their books, Dr. Emmanuelle Huchet, l’Agora’s medical director, said the numbers just don’t add up.

“We won’t make it. It’s impossible with the calculations we’ve done,” she said. “It’s with a heavy heart we say the clinic will no longer be possible, especially with the lack of resources in the network. We just won’t make it. It’s clear, clear, clear.”
