Authorities in Turkey have detained two people as part of an investigation into the death of Ferdi Zeyrek, the mayor of Manisa, who died after receiving an electric shock at his home last Thursday (June 5th).

Mayor Zeyrek was rushed to hospital after going into cardiac arrest, believed to be caused by an electrical fault near his home’s swimming pool. He later died at Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital.

His funeral was held earlier this week, with local officials and residents paying their respects.

A forensic report submitted to the public prosecutor identified two individuals believed to be connected to the incident. Yalçın Ö., who was responsible for maintaining the swimming pool, and Ahmet S., the site’s maintenance and security supervisor, were taken into custody.
