Canada’s energy sector central to North American security and prosperity

Just over 20-years ago, in August 2003, Canadian provinces and U.S. states in the Great Lakes region were impacted by a massive blackout that ground our economy, communities and lives to a halt.

Everyone will remember where they were that day. For my part, it was a defining day for Bruce Power, which was a newly formed company in the Ontario electricity sector at the time, and where I am proud to continue to work today.

Through strong performance and innovation, our staff helped lead the recovery, delivering power in a timely manner to rebuild the electricity grid to support Ontario and neighbouring jurisdictions when it mattered most.

Co-operation between our countries led to the recovery from the immediate crisis, and to a strengthening and increased resiliency in our combined energy system. It was partnership at its best, when it mattered most, and it’s an example of what we can do when we work together.
