What has depressed you most about the world starting up again? Returning to work? The horrible weather? Not having the darts to watch? Well, I’ll tell you what is the biggest downer for me: Elon Musk falling out with Nigel Farage.
Not the fact that it means Reform UK won’t benefit from the world’s richest man’s largesse, but that no one is calling out Musk’s interventions in British politics for what they are, or should be: a toxic irrelevance.
Have we become so infantilised and insecure as a nation that we can be pushed around by someone who has no jurisdiction or locus, or even a vote, here? Yes, he has the power of distribution (200 million followers on X, his own social media mouthpiece) and a hotline to Washington (“Had this election not been won by Donald Trump, civilisation would be lost,” he posted yesterday) but really?
