Scientists Say Invisibility Cloak Tech Isn’t Science Fiction Anymore

Research into materials science illustrates how an invisibility cloak would actually work—and what the science means for disaster mitigation.

In the early 2000s, two methods for a potential invisibility cloak were discovered by physicists in the United Kingdom and the United States who said that the technology necessary to create these cloaks already existed.

“Invisibility is visibly close,” said physicist Ulf Leonhardt of the University of St Andrews in Scotland back in 2006.

To understand how invisibility works, it’s important to understand how vision works. When light reflects off objects around you and and into your eyeball, your........
