Far from shirking their duties, nearly half of Gen Zers work every day of their vacation just to keep up with heavy workloads and combat the “slacker” stereotype.

Since entering the nation’s workforce just a half decade ago, members of Gen Z have labored with an unflattering reputation for stubborn independence, an aversion to take orders, and aloofness that many colleagues interpret as disengaged slacking. Several recent surveys have identified contrasting attitudes and behaviors that help debunk many of those negative stereotypes-cum-accusations. But the most recent study goes even farther in the direction with the discovery that—far from shirking work—nearly half off Gen Zers keep doing their jobs while on vacation.
The finding that 41 percent of Gen Z employees “work every day of their annual leave” is not only striking in challenging views of the cohort as unmotivated and indifferent about their jobs. It’s doubly notable for where that discovery was made. It came from the U.K. unit of international talent recruitment........
