Just as tax season gets into full swing, layoffs are underway at the federal government’s chief collection agency. Multiple outlets report that somewhere between 6,000 and 7,000 employees at the Internal Revenue Service found their jobs on the chopping block Thursday—part of President Trump’s ongoing campaign, carried out in large part by Elon Musk and his “Department of Government Efficiency,” to downsize or outright abolish federal programs.
