February is such a short month that March comes around rather abruptly – and I always find Mother’s Day arrives out of absolutely nowhere.
I’ve spent many a year pulling together gift guides for various occasions, but now I’m a mum – and have friends who are too – I feel like I’ve got a better grasp of what mothers might actually like come 15 March (that’s UK Mother’s Day, FYI).
Sleep is top of the list (it’s also free, winner), as is ‘me-time’. Personally, I feel like flowers and really good quality chocolates never go amiss.
If you’re after something guaranteed to bring a smile to her face come Mothering Sunday, here’s what’s top of my list...
Nutty Forest Chocolates
I first came across Lavolio almost a decade ago and they're still my go-to for confectionery. This stunning tin is home to toasted almonds, pistachios, and hazelnuts with chocolate, all encased in a crisp sugar shell. Delicious (and a great boomerang present, IMO).
One of my favourite gifts of all time was a three-month flower subscription from my lovely in-laws. I would often forget they were coming and then get a knock on the door from the postie with my letterbox flowers – and it was a wonderful surprise all over again each month. It's a great way to keep the celebrations rolling past Mother's Day. Can't recommend enough.
She's definitely going to need a nice vase for all those gorge flowers – and this one is blooming lovely...
Reviving Rose Quartz Face Mask
I bought this face mask for my mum who is prone to migraines and she loves it. Handcrafted from high-grade South African Rose Quartz, it cools and soothes the entire face.
Cowshed Spa Gift Card
Another top-tier pressie is a spa gift card. I love Cowshed's facials, so this is my top pick, but if there's not a Cowshed spa near you, a voucher for your local offering will go down just as well. I personally feel like I spend 90% of each day with cortisol pumping through my body, so a chance to have some alone time and truly unwind is always appreciated.
I have about 30,000 photos of my kids on my phone. Do I ever get them printed? No. And I know there are many mums (and step-mums, grandmothers, aunties, etc.) just like me. The Skylight Frame lets them share their photos straight to the device via email so they can admire photos of their nearest and dearest almost immediately.
The Afternoon Tea Hamper
If you can't take them out for physical afternoon tea, get the next best thing delivered to your door. This hamper includes: 4x scones, Rodda's Cornish clotted cream, strawberry jam, 4x tea sachets, 1x carrot cake, 1x lemon drizzle cake, and 2x brownies. It also comes with a cardboard afternoon tea stand.
Multi Signature Name Necklace
Personalised jewellery is really having a moment – and this delicate necklace from Abbott Lyon can have up to six names added so they can wear their cherubs close to their heart.
If they're more of a locket fan, this silver-plated number allows for two photos to be added.
Charbonnel et Walker Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Truffles
These are, without a doubt, the best chocolates in all the land – and worth every penny. Just be warned, they're so good she might not want to share them with you.
This one doesn't cost a thing but I thought I'd include it anyway – every single mum I know would love a lie-in on Mother's Day. The best thing you can do is take the kids downstairs and let her snooze a bit longer in peace. If you do eventually wake her with a nice cuppa or a coffee and breakfast in bed, I'm sure she'd be delighted.
