When I learned that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are now allowed to raid hospitals, churches and schools, I immediately thought of my journalism students at the University of Houston, one of the most diverse public universities in the nation.

Until spring 2023, I was an adjunct professor and took immense satisfaction in helping students with their educational and career dreams. I regularly had students from other countries, most Spanish-speaking. Some were on student visas, others........
