Two weeks ago, I reported that some Houston city employees who participated in a voluntary early retirement program this spring had not received their pension checks on time. Several other media outlets picked up the story.

After I contacted Mayor John Whitmire about the problem, he said he would work with the city's pension office to address it. He recently told the city council that 500 retirement payments will roll out by the end of August.
