On the same day protesters marched in Washington, D.C. against incoming President Donald Trump's second-term agenda, more than 2,500 Black women turned out to see actress Issa Rae for an evening of inspiration and laughs at Houston's Hobby Center.

The events, both held last weekend, were not connected in any obvious way. The first was focused on women's reproductive rights and politics, and the latter on entertainment, good vibes and Rae's new movie, "One of Them Days," which she produced.

But the lack of Black women was striking in images of the march at the nation's Capitol. Their absence was disconcerting since they have been at the forefront of social justice........
