Many people can say how Chauncy Glover touched their lives. He was gifted with that ability.

He was the hero friend we needed when we needed him, and he made us smile and feel loved. On Tuesday, Chauncy was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment.

I pleaded that it not be true when I heard the news. My hero friend was gone at age 39. The cause of his death has not been released.

I don't know how to make sense of this, how to understand that a person who glided on light is no longer here to guide us through darkness when it comes.

Chauncy and I connected like siblings. During our last communications a month or so ago, Chauncy asked about my children, and we made plans to do dinner whenever he returned to Houston from Los Angeles, where he worked as a TV anchor after leaving ABC13.

He missed Houston. Alabama may have been his birthplace, but Houston was a second home for Chauncy, and people loved him here.

We became friends........
