World-class barbecue can be found in this tiny East Texas town
The back roads of east Texas are a bad place to be if you’re an impatient person. These two-lane blacktops leading to cities like Jasper and Kountze are clogged with 18-wheelers hauling drill pipe, timber mats and cement pumps serving the booming petroleum industry.
We’ve all been caught behind one of these lumbering big-rigs, biding our time and considering the odds of passing in the left lane versus the possibility of playing chicken with oncoming traffic. Just another rite of passage for anyone who grew up in the piney forests of east Texas.
The good news is that where there is oil, there is money. Where there is money, there is often now very good barbecue.
