Make deals, not war!

Donald Trump may be the first pacifist president since Jimmy Carter. Four months into his second term, Trump has exhibited, if not professed, a peacenik doctrine in foreign affairs, consistently pursuing peace, opposing military intervention and approving only limited violence against his enemies.

He demonstrated his doctrine recently in Yemen and Syria. When bombing didn’t weaken the Houthis, he abandoned the campaign and struck a deal. He dropped sanctions on Syria and called the former al-Qaida commander controlling the country a “young, attractive guy. Tough guy. Strong past.”

Say what you will about the president’s policies or motivations, but Trump keeps a campaign promise to avoid war. He’s demonstrated his pacifist credentials in words and deeds. He's far more interested in making money than in global domination.

Trump’s first stop in the Middle East was in Saudi Arabia, where he’s made Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman a partner in peacemaking. Saudi officials have helped Trump work on Russia and Ukraine, as well as Israel and Hamas.

In the 1960s, the draft called up Trump five times before he found a podiatrist in Queens, N.Y., to declare him unfit for duty due to bone spurs, the New York Times........
