How to eat and drink your way around one of the 'world's coolest neighbourhoods'

It’s official: Govanhill is one of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods.

Or at least that's according to Time Out, which declared that while the Southside spot used to be known as "Shawlands' rougher little sibling", it has now earned a place in its annual rankings alongside the likes of Chinatown in Los Angeles and Neos Kosmos in Athens.

The global culture and city guide suggests lower costs have allowed a community of artists and writers to build a sense of buzz beyond the city centre. Biased as I may be, however, I'd argue it's a fabulously eclectic mix of bars, restaurants and cafes that is really behind any marked increase in cool factor.

If you need any further convincing, here's my guide to a day of eating and drinking in Govanhill to help make the case.

First things first: coffee. Get yourself along to Short Long Black, a long-time favourite of Southsiders in search of a flat white to fuel a Queen's Park stroll, or take a wander over to Zennor, which brings an ultra-stylish serving of minimalist chic to Langside Road.
