Wetherspoons has taken a stand against a long-time scourge of pub-goers, banning customers from taking calls on speakerphone or playing music and videos out loud across all 792 of its UK venues.

Good for them. No one should be forced to listen to a stranger's poorly connected FaceTime catch-up with their mum or an endless scroll through their deranged TikTok FYP while tucking into a Thursday Curry Club one table over.

And, since we're on the topic, here are a few other examples of bad behaviour I'd gladly outlaw in bars.

The Straight-Line Queuers 

This is a curious habit that we can't quite seem to shake, even years after Covid restrictions demanded we adhere to strict social distancing rules better suited to a long, single-file queue. 

We've moved on now, folks, and this is a pub, not a post office. Get yourselves right up close to the taps and surrender to the experience of being jostled shoulder to shoulder while you wonder what you've done to offend the bartender who seems to be pouring pints for everyone else but you. 

It's character-building, and all part of the fun.
