Roz Foyer: We have to rally against this glorification in all work and no play
What else is there left to say about James Watt? The notorious punk-IPA, former Brewdog supremo hit the headlines again last week as he seeks to rebrand himself, post-Brewdog, into some form of content creationist, business lifestyle influencer. In fairness, it’s worked. I’m about to write 1000 words on why his latest viral nonsense is exactly that.
Alongside his fiancée Georgia Toffolo, whom he previously announced he was considering delaying his marriage to for reasons of tax efficiency, he claimed that there is no need for a work-life balance and those who want one clearly hate their jobs.
Now, to answer my own question, there’s a lot I could say about James Watt. Whether it’s being accused of allowing members of the fascist English Defence League to down pints of punk in his flagship London pub without warning staff; whether it’s was his humbling apology to staff over the ‘toxic’ work environment at BrewDog; whether it was 100 former staff members who bravely shared their experiences of sexism and misogyny within the industry; whether it was BrewDog’s complete stonewalling and busting of their staff who tried to organise into a union through Unite Hospitality; or whether it was their decision to abandon paying their staff the Real Living Wage, there’s a long, inglorious and damning plethora of things I could say about Watt during his time at BrewDog.

Now, having said all that, I will attempt to play the ball and not the man. His comments demonising those that want to have balance and a life outside of work should be deconstructed........
