'Maintaining the miss' on apprenticeships simply isn't good enough

March is the month for Scottish Apprenticeship Week, and a chance for all sectors that rely on this skills pathway to celebrate successes and roll out the red carpet to the candidates that we seek to welcome into our workplaces.

For engineering and manufacturing the modern and graduate apprenticeship pathways are critical for our future success, and that recognition is reflected in the open days and events that are held by companies, colleges, training groups and universities both in the week and across the month. Potential candidates ranging from senior phase school pupils to people in-career but thinking to change are welcomed along with their partners, supporters or parents for a chance to see first-hand what a career in engineering looks like in 2025.

By far the glitziest event of this season was the ever-uplifting Scottish Apprentice Awards expertly organised by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) as they demonstrated their strong connection and understanding of the wider industry through the breadth and depth of companies represented as supporters and recipients of the awards.

Held in Perth Concert Hall, guests were treated to a succession of inspiring, talented companies and individuals who were rewarded for their drive and commitment for providing and receiving skills with energy and passion.
