Neil Mackay: Morality is on Swinney’s side. Trump should not set foot in Scotland
Hieronymous Bosch was damn good at paintings of humans in hell, yet even he’d have struggled to capture the look of eternal damnation on Marco Rubio’s face during the sadistic, bullying gang-up by Donald Trump and his grotesque storm-trooper JD Vance against President Zelensky.
Rubio was a vision of disgrace, shame and guilt. Like Vance, who once called Trump "Hitler" before selling his soul, Rubio has previously denounced MAGA’s monarch.
Not long ago, Rubio said anyone who backed his current master would have to justify to history “how they fell into this trap of supporting” a man he called a “con artist”. Rubio is now Trump’s Secretary of State. Justifications seem easily bought in MAGA America.
Rubio is an exemplar to others: this is what happens when you take Trump’s shilling. You’ll be drained of morality, forced to defend the indefensible, and at some point your shame will be broadcast to the world. In the end, as we’ve seen repeatedly, you’ll be ruined, and Trump will just step over your bones.

Everyone knows this. To get close to Trump is moral suicide. For that reason alone, Keir Starmer should not have offered Trump a second state visit to Britain, where he’ll be feted by the Royals. Trump will be the first president afforded such honours. Reagan, Clinton, Obama, Bush II – none was paid this respect.
Starmer lavished such glory on Trump, hoping to bribe him. Pay tribute to Caesar, and perhaps Caesar will look kindly on you – this seems Starmer’s thinking.
It was a shaming episode to watch: our Prime Minister grovelling to a man of low character and moral infamy. And it’s not as if Starmer offering........
