We are being softened up to dismiss the sanctity of life
At Mass last Sunday, our parish priest delivered a sermon which conveyed the Catholic Church’s belief in the sanctity of all human life. In the maelstrom of the daily compromises and accommodations you’re required to make when negotiating the secular and the spiritual it’s good to be reminded once in a while what you sincerely believe and why.
Many people I admire respectfully disagree with aspects of this belief, but if your faith doesn’t cause you some discomfort in the secular realm then you’re not really doing it right.
Our priest told us: “The broken body of humanity is presently not far from our eyes, including last week in the Westminster Parliament which has just passed legislation that an abortion up until birth is no longer liable to criminal prosecution: a beautiful baby expecting life but broken and killed. Or again, the bill to legalise assisted suicide being passed in the House of Commons, breaking the Hippocratic Oath that a doctor is called to save lives and comfort the dying.”
