'Overplayed, tired, and twee': It's time to put down our traffic cones for good
To cone, or not to cone: that is the question.
Pardon my use of Shakespeare , but I feel the Bard would have something witty to say about the veritable deluge of traffic cones appearing on statues in recent weeks.
Indeed, the trend once primarily confined to the Duke of Wellington statue in Glasgow has spread as far afield as Boston, Miami and worse still — Edinburgh.
And while that is all well and good, can we please give it a rest? Once humorous and quirky, the act of ‘coning’ (I shudder to use the verb), has become overplayed, tired, and twee.

The ‘6-7’ craze, the Hawk Tuah girl, and skibidi rizz: these are all examples of online trends which have come and gone in the blink of an eye, leaving digital detritus in their wake.
As a relative newcomer with ties in both cities, I am not here to pass judgement on the long-running rivalry between Scotland’s two great cities.
Yet, watching a video yesterday of a group of young men climbing........
