Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the brooding hills of the Isle of Harris, the beautiful Amhuinnsuidhe Castle is home to the eagerly awaited crime drama, An t-Eilean/The Island, that hits our screens tonight on BBC ALBA.

In the opening scenes, a shot rings out from within the castle walls and a woman lies motionless in a pool of blood – triggering a murder inquiry. Over four episodes, the murderer’s identity will be revealed along with the lies and long-buried secrets of the rich but dysfunctional family of Sir Douglas Maclean, who owns the castle.

The family’s troubled history with a young local woman, who returns to Harris as Detective Kat Crichton, is cleverly woven into the warp and weft of this complex, multi-layered story.

At a total cost of £4million, An t-Eilean is the most expensive drama ever funded by the board of MG ALBA, the company that partners with the BBC to deliver BBC ALBA.
