The farce at the heart of Edinburgh Council has reached Whitehall proportions with the sacking of one senior councillor and the rehabilitation of another, but Herald columnist and former councillor John McLellan thinks there might be more to it

With the Labour Government seemingly sunk in the polls, there is some small comfort for Sir Keir Starmer that there is well over three years to go before he must give voters the chance to pass judgement on his hapless administration.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves, mired in controversy over her house letting licence that wasn’t, will never have greater cause to sing God Save the King with gusto after the defenestration of Andrew formerly known as Prince dominated Thursday night’s headlines. And at least Anas Sarwar can be philosophical that his party’s position as a third-place irrelevance at Holyrood is fair reflection of its current support.
