Recent reports and recommendations on implementing the Welsh curriculum should be required reading for Scottish policymakers, writes Education Correspondent Garrett Baylor Stell.

Some readers will wonder why a feature on the implementation of the Curriculum for Wales is in The Herald's Education HQ. 

Others know exactly why, but they won't get a chance to read this column because they've already ripped their paper in half.

As the shouts of “We’ve been saying all of that for years” echo down any street that is home to a Scottish teacher or education researcher, let’s unpack some of the key findings from the Camau i'r Dyfodol (Steps to the Future) Project. 

A joint undertaking between the University of Wales Trinity St David and the University of Glasgow, and supported by the Welsh Government, Camau i'r Dyfodol defined the newly implemented Curriculum for Wales (CfW) and addressed challenges related to it.

The project ran from 2022-2025 and published reports after each of its four phases. At each stage, the reports highlighted key findings and fed them back to teachers and government officials.

The most recent report, released in July, contained concrete recommendations for the Welsh Government. As laid out by the research team, the final report recommended the government should:
