The secrets of what a chef eats when off the clock? It's pretty simple... The best way to a chef’s heart? Cook for them, says Scottish chef Dean Banks.

What's the best way to a chef’s heart? That's easy:

Cook for them.

Even if it’s just cheese on toast, after working a 60 to 70-hour week in the kitchen they’ll be super appreciative.

My amazing wife cooks most of the time for me and the kids at home so it’s always lovely fresh food. Her sausage and mash is my favourite, the sort of simple meal that feels like a warm hug.

But the classic thing for a chef to do if they’re clocking off at midnight is make themselves Super Noodles, order a pizza or stop by the McDonald’s drive-thru on the way home.

We're notorious for eating junk food because it’s high in sugar and calories, the kind of fast-paced meal you can get in while working long hours.

The Gregg’s sausage roll seems to be a favourite amongst most.
