Modern Folly

As time passes, human suffering doubles. What we are suffering now, we didn’t suffer from a decade or two ago. What we will suffer from a decade or two down the line, we aren’t suffering now. It seems as if we are headed towards doom, a scenario we can neither escape nor endure. Confused? Some time back, when radios and kerosene lamps were in vogue, we cared for human connection. Discussions would take place together in a joint sitting, and a sense of communion prevailed as if it were non-negotiable. If there was anything that troubled us, it was electricity cuts, shivering cold, and transportation scarcity. We would visit a person physically, speak to them, discuss with them, hug them, give them our undivided attention, love them, and bid them a tearful goodbye. 

Now? The narrative has turned upside down. We are no longer Karakul-wearing or Khan dress-wearing folks. We have murdered our culture to suit the context of the current times. Our socio-cultural syncretism is of the worst kind. We have forgotten our tongue. We don’t speak to each........
