OpenAI has a pitch for the country’s biggest healthcare systems, and the person they’re sending to make that case is hard to ignore: It’s Sam Altman.

The billionaire cofounder’s involvement in sales calls underscores how important healthcare is to OpenAI’s plans for the future.

To back up that ambition, OpenAI has tapped hundreds of doctors to improve its health answers for the hundreds of millions who turn to ChatGPT for advice each week. It’s also rolling out a new version of ChatGPT specifically for clinicians, as well as a “ChatGPT Health” interface for consumers. It’s all part of a sweeping push into healthcare that comes at a make-or-break moment for the company.
